Do you now someone like this?
Maybe it's your best friend. Maybe it's your boyfriend, mom, or partner. Maybe, it's your sister or your dad. Maybe it's your roommate's friend's cousin. Maybe it's YOU...
You know who I'm talking about. The one person that ALWAYS knows how to fix anything, has the tools to do it, and if they don't, they figure out how to do it anyway. They're always working on something. Projects, hobbies.... STUFF. When they're between projects? They're always looking for more.
This one's mine:
For as long as I've known him, Richard has always been that guy. Whether it was working on his motorcycles (he had 3 when we first met) or his old car, there was always something to be done. If not, he'd be off camping or canoeing, playing hockey or soccer... I believe that it is, in fact, necessary to his existence the he be actively doing something at all times.
These days the motorcycles may be gone, but, there are still plenty of projects to tackle. For example, in the last 15 years he's renovated a house, built a garage, and, re-built to mint condition a 1973 Porsche 914 - all on his own.
I'm going to tease anyone who came here interested in the car right now:
Richard has a real soft spot for the 914. Back in the mid-90's he bought one that was junked-out, and over time took the whole thing completely apart, and re-built/re-furbished it back to its lovely, classic self:
Sadly, we don't have a picture of this one before he brought it back to life. Even more unfortunate is the fact that this beauty isn't even with us now - given his penchant for cross-hemisphere moves, his baby stayed behind with the Kiwis when Richard came back to North America.
The good (?) news is that by some stroke of insane destiny, he found another early '70's, trashed-to-within-an-inch-of-its-life 914 on this side of the Pacific, so, he's going to do it all again. Because obviously. And this time I'll be documenting the whole process.
But not yet (I told you that was a tease... ).
First up, we have the current obsession - I mean, project - the idea for which took root when we came across this book last winter:
Three guesses for what the project is. And by three I mean one.
So stay tuned! For the tale of the arboreal abode is about to begin.
